Hi,
My wife tried forwarding an email (Thunderbird) and it was sent as an .eml attachment. This was bounced by the server. I have since changed the Tbird setting to forward the message inline. I searched the FAQ - but no joy for blocked attachment file types - is there a list of forbidden extensions somewhere to save me time experimenting? |

.eml is the main one, but other dangerous types are also blocked such as .pif, .exe, .bat. Many versions of Outlook were (are?) very vulnerable to sending dangerous attachments - where emails with dangerous attachments would be executed without the user's knowledge.

Thanks - I understand the executable protection of the naive reader but one of the reasons I am shifting email from Blueyonder/Virginmedia is that they have moved their customers to Google mail and the list of blocked extensions now include Microsoft Access database files (.mdb and .mde) which I use a lot.
Obviously I can work round the blocks but it would help to know in advance, when someone needs a file in a hurry, if it will get through. |

.mdb should be fine, but I'd always recommend zipping before sending to save on uploads/downloads.

the .eml block (although a good idea I must add) is a real pain for one of my clients she forwards quite a few emails on a daily basis and as she's 80+ years old isn't too hot on this computer lark and although I've set thunderbird to forward inline when she recieves a .eml attachment it still forwards as an .eml and as one of the regular recipients of these FWD's is also one of my clients hosted with yourselves she gets these bounced and bless her she can't see the difference despite being shown numerous times, any suggestions?
